I’m Robert, a follower, trying to lead others to Him!

Following God is not all that easy. Especially when you are looking for concrete instructions, practical guidance and definitive direction. I tend to want this list that I can execute to be considered a “good” follower of Christ. That way there’s no doubt I’m doing what I’m supposed to do, no room for interpretation on my part.

Following Christ doesn’t work like that though. I mean there are times we’ve been given complete and full instruction (as in the 10 Commandments, or by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount) but so often we are to take on the character of Christ and as we do, we will become more like Him.

I know I’m at my best when I’m spending regular time with Jesus. That may look like sitting on the front porch, enjoying a good cup of coffee. It may look like me reading a book or journaling. It may look like me reading scripture and resting in the silence while letting God work on my heart.

For me, Recognizing the Divine is all about putting ourselves in a place that when God speaks to us or works in our lives we will be able to hear Him leading and see Him working.

“How we listen to our lives is a question worth exploring. In our culture, we tend to gather information in ways that do not work very well when the source is the human soul: The soul is not responsive to subpoenas or cross-examinations…the soul speaks it’s truth only under quiet, inviting, and trustworthy conditions.” Parker Palmer, from his book, Let Your Life Speak.

We tend to hurry through our over-scheduled, over-produced life leaving no time for our soul to speak it’s desires…it’s true desires. The desires that call us to God, that are found in Christ’s love and sacrifice. It’s this calling to a slower way of life…a more intentional way of life that seem to trip so many of us up, myself included. Self-reflection, silence, solitude, prayer, spending time in nature, creating and so many other things help bring our soul into alignment with God so that we can recognize Him working in us and through us. I hope to help usher into your life those things that help you recognize the divine, even if just in small doses. God will work with what we give Him.

Recognizing the Divine is not hard, but it does take focus, quiet, and some love. Join me on this journey!

Guiding Scriptures

Ephesians 5:14
“Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” ESV

1 Corinthians 13:12
“We don’t yet see things clearly. We’re squinting in a fog, peering through a mist. But it won’t be long before the weather clears and the sun shines bright! We’ll see it all then, see it all as clearly as God sees us, knowing him directly just as he knows us!” MSG
